A preview of the June 28, 2013, edition
        of The Carmel Pine Cone

June 28 - July 4, 2013

Dear Readers,

Big changes could be coming to the Carmel River Lagoon to prevent floods and protect fish. State parks and some residents say, "No way," but the county board of supervisors said, "We like it." Chris Counts reports.

An employee of Il Fornaio saved the day last weekend when Fox News had a VIP live remote from the Pine Inn but neglected to order a makeup artist. Mary Schley has that one.

Clint Eastwood wants to make some of the water from his Odello property available to property owners who have been deprived all these years, and the City of Carmel could be one of his best takers. Kelly Nix has the details.

The first phase of the renovation of the Carmel Mission is complete, and the old lady doesn't look anywhere near her age. The 2013 Bach Fest gets underway in two weeks, and we have a look at the extensive preparations required to make sure it meets its longstanding traditions and high musical standards. A renowned local photographer shows off his images from his many trips to Africa. And my editorial says that this week's Prop 8 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court will have some very bad consequences for California's initiative process.
