A preview of the November 24, 2017,
edition of The Carmel Pine Cone

November 24 - 30, 2017

Dear Readers,

The Monterey Peninsula attracts hordes of private jets every year during the AT&T Pro-Am and Concours d'Elegance. Should the people who fly in those jets feel guilty about causing climate change by not flying commercial? Apparently not, because according to the example set by the state's No. 1 environmentalist, flying private is the only way to go -- even all the way to Europe. Kelly Nix reports.

Another local resort changed hands last week, and this one ranks No. 2 in sale price, right behind the Pebble Beach Co. when it was sold 18 years ago. This time around, the P.B. Co. was one of the sellers. I have that story.

Two women have been charged with embezzling large sums from local contractors -- and they were only able to pull it off because their employers trusted them so much. Mary Schley has the details.

A big crowd said goodbye to RJ Harper during a memorial service at the 18th Hole at Pebble Beach Tuesday. A state water agency has issued a warning about erosion at Point Lobos. A Carmel man has been arrested for DUI and for having guns in his car. A woman told sheriff's deputies she was threatened by a man with a machete on Jacks Peak last Friday. We have a fabulous Holiday Guide for you, full of ideas to get your Christmas season started, including loads of local shopping suggestions and community events. And if you ate a big Thanksgiving dinner, you may find my editorial informative about the history of the meal, and comforting when it comes to what you were supposed to eat.

As always, I invite you to send me any questions, comments or concerns about our newspaper, and to contact me if you need help making the most of it on your computer, smartphone or tablet.
